Retinning For Your Copper Pots & Pans.
When it comes to retinning kitchen related items, Metal Man Restoration does everything by hand. This requires years of quality experience.
Retinning is a process used in recoating used food equipment. High quality, grade "A" tin is applied by a hand wipping method. Retinning is NSF & USDA approved and will not peel, crack or flake away. In many cases your food equipment outlasts its original coating. No need to discard it. Used food equipment can be retinned in most cases for less than half the cost of replacement.
From totally cleaning your utensil of built-up grease and stuck-on foodstuffs, to heavily re-coating the tin, to polishing the entire pan so that it will look like new when it is returned to you. Each item receives the following: inspected, dents removed and minor repairs made. (major repairs cost extra with approval) expertly cleaned to remove rust, scale, grease, etc. (not necessary to pre-clean) Grade A virgin tin applied by hand method to insure performance equal to new.
We charge 4.00 per inch which includes retinning of the entire pot/pan or kitchen utensil, refinishing (polishing) the outside of the item and removal of any dents or dings in the item. Our tinning process is very intense and you can look below to see the process. Turn around time can vary from 1 week all the way up to 5 week during our peak season (fall/winter).
Our Process
- First we inspect the pots when their arrive at our facility.
- We proceed with an abrasive blasting of the inside of the pots to ensure removal of all the old tin and cooking grime (This is not done by most Metal Finshing companies that retin copper items).
- Once the item has been abrasive blasted it is then inspected for any dings or dents which are repaired. Then we clean the item throughly to ensure that the flux and tin wil adhere to the item smoothly.
- Now that the item has been throughly cleaned we proceed with tinning the copper item.
- Once the item is tinned it is then brought over to our buffing facility to polish the item to a high shine.
