251 West 89th Street – Entranceway Restoration
Restoring the wrought iron entranceway of The Admaston at 251 West 89th Street, NYC: paint stripping,...
Metal Man Restoration was hired in June 2009 to restore the cast iron windows at Yale University’s Harkness Tower. A landmark Collegiate Gothic structure in New Haven, Connecticut, the tower was built between 1917 and 1921 as part of the Memorial Quadrangle.
The cast iron windows were removed and brought to our facility in poor condition, carrying a heavy accumulation of paint along with minor structural damage that needed repair.
Metal Man Restoration began with a chemical bath to strip every layer of paint, followed by bead blasting to clear rust scale and paint residue down to sound metal. The team welded the structural areas that needed reinforcement, then protected the castings with a TNEMEC primer and a urethane top coat, a system built to hold up for decades.
Completed in just over three weeks, the work returned 27 fully restored cast iron windows that honor the historic character of Harkness Tower.
