Metal Man Restoration is a full metal restoration shop in Mount Vernon, New York, serving New York City, Westchester, and the tri-state area. We strip, repair, polish, re-plate, and refinish architectural and decorative metal, from a single piece of antique hardware to the bronze entrance of a landmark building. Everything happens under one roof, which is why a job that would normally pass through three vendors passes through one.
What Metal Restoration Covers
Metal restoration is the process of bringing worn, corroded, painted-over, or damaged metal back to a sound and finished condition rather than replacing it. In practice that means stripping old coatings, repairing the substrate, removing corrosion and pitting where the material allows, then refinishing to the look you want and protecting it so the work lasts.
We work in bronze, brass, copper, nickel, chrome, stainless steel, cast iron, pewter, aluminum, and silver. Some pieces come to the shop; architectural work is often done on site.

Bare Metal and Antique Restoration
Old brass and bronze usually carry decades of lacquer, tarnish, and polish residue, and antiques are often painted over entirely. We take the least aggressive route that will do the job, because metal removed is metal you do not get back. Stripping back to bare metal reveals detail that has been buried for years, and on antique pieces we match the original finish rather than imposing a modern one.
Architectural and Landmark Work
A large share of our work is on buildings rather than objects. One Shop, Not Three Vendors
Stripping, repair, polishing, plating, and finishing all happen in our own facility. That is unusual in this trade, and it is the reason we can hold a consistent finish across a project, quote competitively, and turn work around faster than shops that subcontract the polishing or the plating out. With more than 100 years of combined experience on the floor, the person assessing your piece is the person who knows what can be done with it.

Common Questions About Metal Restoration
These are the questions we hear most from people working out whether a piece, a fixture, or a whole building is worth restoring.
What does metal restoration cost?
It depends entirely on the piece, the metal, its condition, and the finish you want. A single piece of hardware and a bronze building entrance are different orders of magnitude. Send photos or bring the piece in and we will quote it.
Is restoration cheaper than replacement?
Usually, and especially for antique, architectural, or landmark metal where a like-for-like replacement either does not exist or has to be fabricated. Restoration also keeps the original material, which matters in a preservation context.
Can you restore metal that has been painted over?
Yes. We strip the paint or lacquer first, then assess the metal underneath. Painted-over hardware and radiators are among the most common jobs we see.
Do you work on site or in your shop?
Both. Architectural work such as facades, entrances, and railings is generally done on site. Hardware, lighting, radiators, and anything needing plating comes to the shop and goes back finished.
Do you take on one-off pieces, or only large projects?
Both. We restore single heirloom pieces as readily as we handle a full building, and we run production work for manufacturers as well.
