Marble Floor Restoration and Polishing

Marble is soft, porous and quick to show wear. Foot traffic dulls it, spills etch it and grit scratches the surface. None of that means the floor needs replacing. We restore marble floors in Mount Vernon and across Westchester County.

Why Marble Floors Go Dull

Three separate things are usually happening at once. Traffic abrades the polish, acidic spills such as wine and citrus etch the stone, and grit walked in from outside puts fine scratches across the surface.

Cleaning does not fix any of them, because the damage is in the stone rather than on it. That is why a floor can be spotless and still look tired.

Honing Back to an Even Plane

We hone the marble back to a flat, even plane, which removes scratches, dull spots and etching rather than covering them. Chips and cracks are filled at this stage with color matched portland cement or epoxy resin, honed flat and polished in with the surrounding stone so the repair blends instead of sitting proud of the floor.

Picking a Finish for the Traffic

Matte, semi gloss and gloss all wear differently. A high gloss lobby looks striking and shows every scuff. A honed finish hides traffic far better in a busy entry.

We talk through the room, the traffic it takes and the maintenance you are willing to do, then finish to that rather than defaulting to the shiniest option.

Sealing and Aftercare

The stone is sealed once it is finished, and we supply marble safe cleaners so the floor is not being etched by the products used on it. Most of the damage we are called to correct was done slowly by the wrong cleaner.

Common Questions About Marble Floors

Can etching be polished out?

Yes. Acid etching from cleaners, wine or citrus is polished out rather than covered over.

Do repairs match the rest of the floor?

We assess each chip for size, spread, type and color, then match it and polish it in with the surrounding stone.

How disruptive is the work?

We mask and contain the work so the rest of the space stays usable. Countertops are usually done on site in a day; floors depend on the area.
