In October 2026, Metal Man Restoration restored five ornate Rococo II cast iron radiators from a home on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. The goal was to bring back the detailed Rococo casting that layers of white paint had buried, and to give the radiators a polished, oxidized finish.
The radiators had been painted white, and the heavy paint had filled in much of the ornate Rococo II relief. Paint was chipping along the columns, and the radiators needed cleaning inside as well as out.
All the work was done in our Mount Vernon facility. Our team chemically stripped each radiator, cleaning the inside and outside, then bead blasted, sanded, and polished the castings. We finished them by oxidizing the metal, which darkens the recesses so the Rococo detail reads clearly against the polished high points.
The result is five radiators with crisp ornamental detail and a hand-polished metal finish. Learn more about our cast iron radiator hand polishing service.
