Stone Restoration in Manhattan

Metal Man Restoration restores marble, granite, and terrazzo in Manhattan’s landmark lobbies, prewar co-ops, hotels, and residences. We clean, repair, grind, hone, and polish stone floors and surfaces to bring back the depth and shine that decades of traffic wear away. A restored marble lobby floor sets the tone for an entire building, and restoring the original stone almost always beats replacing it.

Manhattan Stone We Restore

Manhattan’s older buildings are full of natural stone that responds well to restoration. We work on:

  • Marble lobby and entrance floors in landmark and prewar buildings
  • Granite surfaces and thresholds
  • Terrazzo floors in lobbies and hallways
  • Stone stairs, walls, and trim
  • Countertops and decorative stone

What Stone Restoration Involves

Stone restoration removes years of wear, etching, and dullness rather than just cleaning the surface. We repair chips and cracks, grind out scratches and lippage, then hone and polish the stone to the finish you want, from a soft honed matte to a full high polish. A final seal helps protect the surface against the next round of traffic and spills.

Why Restore Stone Instead of Replacing It?

Original marble and terrazzo in a Manhattan building often cannot be matched by new material, and replacing a landmark or prewar lobby floor is disruptive and expensive. Restoration brings the existing stone back to a like-new finish at a fraction of the cost and keeps the material that gives the space its character. In many buildings, replacement is not even an option the board will approve.

Serving Manhattan Buildings

We restore stone in prewar co-op and condo lobbies on the Upper East and Upper West Sides, hotel and commercial lobbies across Midtown, and landmark and civic buildings in Lower Manhattan. The same shop that restores a building’s metal can bring its stone back too, so a lobby restoration can be handled together. Common Questions About Stone Restoration in Manhattan

These are the questions Manhattan building owners and managers ask us most about restoring stone.

Can a dull, scratched marble floor be brought back?

Yes. Grinding, honing, and polishing remove scratches, etching, and dullness and restore the depth and shine of the stone. A worn lobby floor can look close to new again.

Can you repair chips and cracks in stone?

Yes. We repair chips, cracks, and lippage as part of the restoration, then refinish so the repairs blend into the surrounding stone.

Do you restore terrazzo as well as marble?

Yes. We restore marble, granite, and terrazzo, which are common in Manhattan lobbies and hallways, and we finish each to suit the space.

Can you work around a busy lobby?

Yes. We schedule and phase the work to keep a Manhattan lobby usable, often working in sections or during off-hours so the building keeps running.

Will you seal the stone when finished?

Yes. We apply an appropriate sealer as a final step to help protect the restored surface against traffic and spills and to make ongoing maintenance easier.
