Metal Restoration in the Bronx

Metal Man Restoration is a single shop for metal restoration across the Bronx. We restore chandeliers and architectural lighting, bronze and iron architectural metal, plating, hardware, steel casement windows, cast iron radiators, and stone, and we keep all of it maintained afterward. Our facility sits in Mount Vernon, immediately north of the borough line, which makes the Bronx one of the closest places we work.

The Bronx Buildings We Work On

Art Deco apartment houses along the Grand Concourse, nineteenth-century row houses in Mott Haven and Longwood, freestanding homes in Riverdale and Fieldston, houses of worship, schools, and civic buildings. The borough’s building stock is unusually consistent in age, which means the same problems recur: paint-buried cast iron, worn plating, seized steel casement, and lobby metal and stone that has gone dull.

Our Bronx Portfolio

In April 2008 the New York Yankees and Skanska Construction Corporation hired us to restore the bronze plaques honoring Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, displayed at Babe Ruth Plaza and the Bronx County Courthouse. Buried under decades of paint, they were first mistaken for cast iron. Solid bronze sat underneath. The full account is in our write-up of that restoration. Our client list also includes the Bronx Zoo.

Landmark and Preservation Work

Mott Haven was the first historic district the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission designated in the Bronx, in 1969, and Grand Concourse, Fieldston, Riverdale, Longwood, Clay Avenue, and Morris Avenue followed. Work affecting a landmark exterior or a designated interior can require a permit before it begins. We help owners and architects confirm a building’s status and align the restoration with the applicable standards.

One Shop for the Whole Building

A prewar Bronx building rarely needs one thing. The lobby marble, the entrance bronze, the apartment hardware, the radiators, and the steel windows all age at once. Keeping it with one shop means one assessment, one schedule, and finishes that match across the building rather than four vendors each solving their own piece.

Common Questions About Metal Restoration in the Bronx

These are the questions Bronx owners, boards, and architects ask before a project begins.

Do you handle every kind of metal restoration?

Yes. Architectural metal, lighting, plating, hardware, steel casement windows, cast iron radiators, and stone are all done by the same shop, along with ongoing maintenance afterward.

Have you worked on Bronx landmarks?

Yes. The Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig plaques we restored for the Yankees and Skanska are displayed at Babe Ruth Plaza and the Bronx County Courthouse. Public and civic metalwork in the borough is regular work for us.

Which Bronx neighborhoods do you serve?

All of them, including the Grand Concourse, Mott Haven, Longwood, Morrisania, Riverdale, Fieldston, Belmont, Throgs Neck, and City Island.

Can you restore several elements in one project?

Yes, and it is usually the better way to do it. One assessment covers the building, the schedule is coordinated, and the finishes match across lobby, entrance, and apartments.

Do you work on-site or in your shop?

Both. Facades, railings, stone floors, and fixed metal are done on-site. Hardware, radiators, lighting, and anything needing plating come to our Mount Vernon shop, which is a short trip from anywhere in the borough.

I wanted to restore a pair of radiators in an NYC apt that I bought. Desired to remove the radiator box/cover to create more space and to have beautiful radiators to display. I searched around NYC for restorators but could only find shops that spray coat radiators, which would make them look...
